The British company, Prodrive, specializing in racing cars and technology, and headquartered in Banbury, has confirmed that it has begun developing what is believed to be the world's first desert hypercar for private sale and aims to operate a prototype by the end of this year.
When completed, the ultra-exclusive machine is expected to find buyers for more than £ 1 million apiece, or roughly $ 1.3 million.
David Richards, founder and CEO of Prodrive, made it clear to Autocar exclusively that the new vehicle will be built at its headquarters by the company's own team of engineers and technicians.
“Nobody has ever done a car like this before. Imagine a road car capable of crossing a dune at 100 mph, and keep doing so for 300 miles because the fuel tank is so large. It will be very exciting. ”
It is said that the model will be called Hunter and will be a legal version of the BRX T1 that competed in the 2021 Paris-Dakar Rally .
The car will have pretty much the same dimensions, suspension and chassis as the competing car and will be powered by the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo Ford V6 engine, which has undergone an extensive development process at the company's British workshops.
Whereas a Dakar racer is tied to 400 hp, the legal version for the road will be increased to 500 hp. To make it more comfortable for road use, the interior will also be revamped.
Richards said the team had two dominant problems. One of them was ill-suited tires: the BRX-class nominee size and type were too small and squeaky. Teams had to deal with over twenty punctures and Sebastian Loeb's car actually failed to finish due to its out of tires.
But regulators are aware of the problem and tire regulations will change to better proven specifications for 2022.
